4th Annual Anaheim Autism/Asperger’s Conference
                             February 6-7, 2010

The Most Comprehensive Autism Conference Series in Southern California
Life on the Autism Spectrum –Stephen Shore, Ed.D., Saturday Keynote
Stephen will share his story from his non-verbal days through adolescence to finally becoming a college professor.  As he discusses his journey, he will
share insights into what it is like to live with autism and Asperger’s, and discuss strategies that have helped him and many of his peers.

Using special brain imaging to guide treatment for anxiety, OCD, hyperactivity and other problems in autism
Jeff Bradstreet, MD and Michael Uszler, MD, Saturday Evening Plenary Session
Several techniques are available to investigate brain structure and function, including MRI, Spect Scan, and EEG.

One recent study revealed nearly half of children with autism had abnormal MRI imaging, and even more have abnormal EEG measurements.
Additionally, most children with autism present with abnormalities on functional imaging studies of the brain. These observations can help to direct our
interventions in more effective ways.

Understanding and Treating Anxiety in Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders – Doreen
Granpeesheh, Ph.D., BCBA, Sunday Keynote

Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders often present with anxiety disorders that cause significant functional impairments. While Anxiety Disorders
such as Generalized Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Phobias and other anxiety symptoms are common amongst individuals with ASD, the
identification and treatment of these comorbid disorders are made more difficult by the concurrent presence of communication delays, behavior
problems and the lack of standardized assessments for patients with ASD. This presentation reviews the literature on prevalence, features and
assessment of anxiety in ASD individuals and offers guidelines for treatment through the use of cognitive behavioral protocols that have been found to
be effective in this field.

Movement as the Central Concept in Cognition and Curriculum

RSylwester.jpgRobert Sylwester
Emeritus Professor of Education, University of Oregon

Processing movement in its various physical, communicative, and psychological forms is our brain’s defining property.  The inability to effectively plan, process, and/or predict movement is thus a serious cognitive limitation.

This non-technical presentation will explore the biological, cultural, and educational implications of movement, with a special focus on the roles that (1) mirror neurons play in developing our motor capabilities, and (2) the arts and narratives play in adding virtuosity, aesthetics, and mental exploration to movement.

AGE RANGE: The basic principles are operative at all school and cultural levels.

Topic:  The Chiropractor and autism in children
Guest Speaker: Dr. John Erdmann

Dr. John Erdmann (Dr. John) 925-943-6219

We specialize in Applied Kinesiology. I am board certified from ICAK and hold a BCT, board certified teaching credential for Applied kinesiology. At the heart of Applied kinesiology is an application to neurologically and specifically utilize and validate the chiropractic adjustment. We examine and incorporate many parameters from range of motion, blood and saliva functional medicine tests, to chiropractic tests, orthopedic and posture and gait analysis and the muscle facilitation test. We will video tape and camera your posture and look for adaptive changes. We scan and evaluate the feet arches and check the weight bearing ability. We use an ACG or Acoustic Cardio Graph to get an insider look on perhaps the most important muscle the heart. In short, we mix tradition, proven and tested science with the latest information and treatment to give you the best alternative and wholistic health care.
